OUR STORY

Hi, I’m so glad you’re here! 👋

If you have recently started on a GLP-1 medication (like Ozempic or Mounjaro) for weight loss or you recently had Weight-Loss Surgery (WLS), you already know the golden rule: you have to focus heavily on getting enough protein.

But let’s be honest – when your appetite is completely suppressed, the last thing you want to do is eat a massive plate of food. In the beginning, I deeply struggled with this. On the days I didn’t feel like eating, I just wouldn’t bother. But skipping meals is highly unhealthy and can lead to muscle loss, severe fatigue, and hair loss. I knew I had to make a change. My main motivation for losing weight was to get back out onto the trails and enjoy my hiking hobby without feeling held back by my body. I wanted to move freely again, but I couldn’t do that without fueling my body correctly. When I searched online for quick, high-protein inspiration, I hit a massive wall. Almost every recipe video or blog came from overseas. They featured expensive specialty items or ingredients we simply cannot get at our local supermarkets. I didn’t want a complicated lifestyle change that required spending a fortune or spending hours in the kitchen after a long day at work. I just wanted simple, affordable, high-protein meals that I could prep fast.

That is why I started Mzansi Lekker & Lean.

My Mission (and Your New Secret Weapon)

This blog started as a personal accountability project and a place to share my tested recipes with colleagues and friends. Today, it is a resource for any South African looking to hit their nutritional goals without burning a hole in their wallet.

Every single recipe you find here follows a strict rulebook:

🛒 100% Local: Every ingredient can be picked up on a quick, after-work grocery run at Checkers, Pick n Pay, or Woolies.

💪 Protein-First & Low-Volume: Specifically structured to give your body the exact macros it needs, even when your appetite is low.

🪙 Budget-Friendly: High-protein eating shouldn’t be a luxury. I break down the high-level cost of every meal, aiming for an average of only R50 per serving.

⏱️ Zero Fuss: Quick to make, easy to follow, and accompanied by clear, simple instructions.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 One Meal for the Whole Family: You will never have to cook a separate meal for yourself while your family eats something else. These meals are delicious, nutritious, and absolutely do not taste like bland “diet food.” They are real, satisfying meals that your whole family will love – and that you can continue eating and enjoying even after you hit your weight goals.

✌️ Small Batch Editions: Cooking just for yourself or two people? You shouldn’t have to eat the same mince dish for five days or pack your freezer with foil containers. Every meal links directly to a tested small batch version with its own dedicated macro and cost breakdown!
